Description
Expertly carved from the root of a cottonwood tree and vibrantly painted, this left handed hunter kachina doll was created by Hopi/Laguna artist Ray Jose. The piece features a thick base painted in geometric patterns in black, red, yellow, and grey, the left handed hunter standing atop it, a shield in one hand and an incredibly detailed eagle in the other. A sheath of arrows is slung over his shoulders, while his clothing is painted colorfully in orange, turquoise, yellow, red, and turquoise. Feathers are carved atop its head, mimicking those of the eagle with its wings outstretched, as if about to fly fro the hunter’s hand. 10 3/4″ tall x 5 1/2″ wide.
