Created by Zuni carver Daisy Natewa, this incredible piece features one of each of the traditional six directional animals bundled together, each carved from a different stone. According to Zuni tradition, a single animal is guardian of each of the six directions (including up and down), each of which is featured in this amazing piece. At the center, a lapis bear, the guardian of the west, rests. The bear is flanked on either side by a mountain lion, the guardian of the north, a badger, the guardian of the south, a mole, guardian of down, and a wolf, the guardian of the east, each carved of different stones, including ricolite, rhodonite, white marble, and Picasso marble. The final piece of the six directional puzzle is the pink mussel shell eagle atop the remainder of the animals, who is the guardian of the sky, or up. The animals are bound together with a medicine bundle comprising turquoise, shell and sinew. 1 3/4″ tall x 2 5/8″ wide x 2″ deep.
